Our Most Favorite Type of Date Nights

Friday night date.

Jer text me around 3pm and asked me if Boston could go spend the night with my parents because my mom had asked him if they could have him for the night.  I said, "Yes!"  Then Jer proceeded to tell me that he would be leaving work around 4pm and for me to be ready and to have Boston packed so that when he got home we could head out for a date night.

So that's what I did.  I quickly got in the shower, while B played on the iPap (as he calls it) and got ready.  Then packed his bag.

By the time Jer got home, my mom was almost to our house to pick up the B-man.  She loaded him up and they took off.

Then Jer and I headed out to sushi.  That's always on the top of our list to eat when we go out for dinner.  Since one of my really close friends just had a baby, we headed over to visit their new sweet little guy.  We spent a good hour with them and then headed over to Barnes and Noble where we finished our night.  I read DIY magazines while Jer did a little work.

Now that's our kinda date night.  Sushi, friends and magazine reading.  Who doesn't love to just read magazines at B&N?  It's so calm and quiet.  Pretty much perfect to me.

Can't wait until the next one.

Oh and getting to sleep in was blissful.

Watching Airplanes

Jer has always loved airplanes.  In fact, he either wanted to be a pilot or attorney.  Well, one of them have been checked off the list of 2.  And secretly, I think he hopes Boston becomes a pilot.  Mama on the other hand isn't too sure about that idea.  While I love airplanes and flying in them, I think a job on the ground would be more in my comfort zone for our little man.

While Jer was in the Coast Guard many many years ago he worked on the falcon jets.  So while he was in law school, his love for airplanes and working on them fueled his fire to become an aviation attorney.  Anyway.....not that you needed to know all of that....but it does explain why theses boys' new hobby is going to our local small airfield and watching airplanes land and take-off.

I was lucky enough to get to go on one of those outings and like true momma fashion I documented it.  Oh and Jer documents sometimes on his instagram @jeremyc95.

What's hilarious is when these little 2-3 seater airplane engines are running and about to take-off Boston thinks the sound of their engines is hilarious.  So he giggles and giggles.  Its the cutest sound ever.  I think more and more he's loving airplanes.  He's the first to spot airplanes and tell us that they are, "going to land at the airport."  :)

Maybe I'll get invited to another "airplane watching event" with these two again.  But if not, I'll surely let them enjoy their time together and making memories time.

Trial Week

As soon as we got back from Florida that Sunday evening, Jer left for a one week trial about an hour and a half away.

We picked up Boston, came home, he unloaded his suitcase, re-loaded it and headed out of town.  And it never fails, the waterworks turn on.  As if he's leaving for months.

Buuutt.....that Tuesday evening I called my sister-in-law to see if she would watch Boston while I went to watch Jer in trial for the first time ever.  Most of the time when goes to trial it far away.  Too far to drive to.  So I knew this was my opportunity to go and watch him.  Something I've always wanted to do.  My SIL said yes, so that Wednesday evening around 5pm I dropped him off and headed out of town.  I got there just in time for the "trial team" to head to dinner and talk about how the day went.

The next morning I was so giddy.  Couldn't wait to see how the whole trail process worked.  :)
It was a trial filled day.  A fun one at that.  Later that night we went and had dinner again and then Jer came home to prepare for the last day (closing arguments) of trial.  Meanwhile, I couldn't get enough of the Jodi Arias trial so I watched it in bed while he worked.  Luckily for me, that night the trial was still going on till late in the evening!

Before trial started that Friday morning, Jer had to prepare a draft of the jury charges.  Then he had to argue them in front of the judge.
Thankfully, they got a good jury charge to give to the jury.  :)
All rise!  The jury is about to walk in and we are about to hear the verdict!
Verdict: we won!!  Errr, Jer won!!!!  I have to say that the moment before the judge read the verdict I was shaking I was so nervous.  Weirdo right here.  Not knowing what the jury decided was so nerve wracking.  You want to win so bad and you are so nervous they will go the other way.  But it all ended well.

We talked with the jury and the judge and then headed back home to pick our baby boy.  Needlesss to say, we had a great weekend after that.  :)

A Few Things About Mr. Cook

I'm so incredibly proud of this man.  My husband and my baby daddy.  The one and only for me.  He's our everything.  Our rock.  And he does it all so well.

After almost 17 years of being together and 7 years of marriage and 3 years of blogging....I'm finally going to talk about my better half.  I think its about time.  Time for me to talk about him and him only.  He's talked about me here and here.  So it's time for me to talk about him.  One full post dedicated to him and him only.

There's a lot to say about him.

And its very important to write it in its raw form, as much as possible, for my children to one day read.  Some day they will have chance to read this blog and read about their daddy through their mommas eyes from 2013.  I want them to know in full detail about how their momma thought about their daddy in case something ever happened to me.

Beware it could get a little mushy!

There's 4 words that can sum up Jer: one of a kind.

- There's something about him that is unique and amazing.  He's got the best qualities that I would ever want in a man/life partner/baby daddy.  And those qualities are perfect for me.  He's the one that friends and family call on for advice whether its about relationships/marriage, job related or any type of law issue.  He's there to help them without hesitation and open arms.  It's crazy the amount of "secrets" that he knows about our friends who lean on him and trust in him to tell him what may be happening in their lives and what they need advice about.  But if anyone can give great non-judgmental advice its Jer.  It's one of the things that I was so drawn to him for.  Trust and security.

- He's got the biggest heart, so compassionate and kind.  He's the kind that won't even kill a spider because he'd rather scoop it up to take it outside so that it can live.

- He's the most honest person I have ever known.  Something that is so valuable.  Not only to me but to our children.

- He is very sensitive.  He's the kind that is quick to give sympathy than being that tough guy.  There's nothing wrong with being tough but I'd much rather prefer the more sympathetic spouse.  One that gives Grace first.

- He never puts himself first.  He always puts everyone (me and B mostly) before himself, always.  He is SWAMPED at work right now but instead he spent a whole weekend (a weekend that he needed to have worked since Boston was away at the grandparents) helping me with my sewing (cutting out my patterns) and never even opened his computer to work.  He'd do anything to make me happy even if it means that his week was going to be even that much more stressful.  I love that he makes us feel important and loved.

- I love that he is such a hands on daddy.  We work best as a team.  And I think Boston appreciates that.  I remember when Boston was a newborn, he used to get up with me just about every time I got up with Boston for feedings.  He would change his diaper and then I would put Boston on the boob and feed.  :)  And before he would go back to sleep, he would make sure I had water or anything I needed in the middle of the night even though he had to get up for work that next morning.  Its all a part of him putting others (me) first.  And yes, there were many times I would tell him not to worry about anything and to get his sleep.  But at the same time, I think he liked being able to help out.  It's just him being him.  :)

- He's intelligent.  There's something about an intelligent man that is a turn on.  :)  And with that intelligence, he can fix anything.  I mean anything.  An awesome handy man.  Oh and did I mention he's a perfectionist?  He is.  So when he fixes something or works on something it ends up perfect.  Hopefully Boston will get that trait.

- He's pretty darn hilarious.  Makes me belly laugh hysterically.  He's loves to humor us and act goofy.  Basically he's a big kid and fun to live with.  :)

- He's a Godly man.  My most favorite thing about him.  Its important for him to show B how to be a Godly man/husband/father.

- He has an amazing work ethic/makes being an attorney look easy.  A year and a half ago (I wrote about back when), he moved to a new law firm in Dallas.  He had been at the previous firm for almost 6 years.  It was his first job right out of law school and loved the aviation work.  Crazy enough, he had just been promoted to "partner" at that firm.  But then changed firms.  At this new firm he has excelled.  Excelled so much that a year and a half later (January of this year) he was promoted to "partner/shareholder!"  Now that probably doesn't sound all that amazing but it actually is.  It's uncommon/mostly unheard of that an attorney makes partner of a firm before they hit their 5 year mark.  I'm amazed at how great he is at his job.  And I know that he'll be such an amazing inspiration/role model for our children.  And it truly fills my heart with gratefulness.

I love that God knew what he was doing when he put Jer in my life.  He always does.  :)  And I'm so very thankful for that.

So Boston and future children, you would will be beyond blessed to have a father like him.  And I can't wait for you to experience the life I have with him too.  I know he will make you proud/comforted/safe to have him as a father.

Father's Day Weekend 2012

Father's day weekend was a busy but definitely special.  We got to spend our whole weekend, starting Friday evening, with our dads.  We love each one of them.  Since I was blessed with 2 father-in-laws, we started Friday evening at Jer's dads house (where no pictures were taken, I know, I can't believe it either!!).

Saturday we headed over to Jer's moms house for some pool time.

Saturday evening we headed out to bowl with my family.

A great weekend with some great daddy's.

Jer's father's day card was made with love.  I made a card for him for father's day again this year like I did last year.  I think I've decided that it'll be our little ritual we do every year for him.  Eventually we can make something out of them.  :)
*this was the front of the card*
picture was from mother's day
*the inside of the card*
*the back of the card said, "I Love You, Da-Da!" with this picture:*
