Creepy Climber aka Boston James

See this image below:
Do you see a baby in that crib?  I'll answer for you, "NO!"

Yeah, there's no baby in the crib.  That would be because my lovely/tall/curious baby boy decided that it was cooler to be outside of his crib than inside during nap time.

It was his first time crawling out of his bed and I was f-r-e-a-k-e-d out!  Mortified.  All I kept thinking was, "No, this can't be happening already, not to us, that happens to other mommy's and daddy's!!"

Once I gathered myself, facebooked it, text Jer and tweeted it (in that order).....I ran upstairs opened the door to find this.

Playing.  Having a grand ol' time in the dark.

So that nap was a wrap.

The second nap was test time.  I was hoping it was just some "freak" thing that he did just that one time. And that the next nap would be like all the others.  Well....my worst nightmare was coming true.  Baby boy was out of his crib in no time.  Minutes.  I heard a big "thud" on the ceiling from our study and new it was his feet hitting the floor.  Turned on my monitor and baby was gone again.  What tha!

This time I waited a while (15 minutes or so) before going to get him.  Hoping to get a little more me time squeezed into the day.  I could hear him talking and laughing and walking all around his room but no crying.  So I let him "play."

After deciding to go and get him.  I open the door to a disaster filled room.  Oy.

Poor giraffe was on his side.  Every book was off his shelf.  Some pillows were off his window bench. Clothes were pulled out of his drawers.  Diapers were thrown various places.
We weren't ready to put him in a big boy bed just yet.  But if we were we have one.  We actually bought Boston's big boy bed for $20 at a garage sale back in March.  It's waiting in our garage for a makeover.

When daddy got home we did a little brainstorming and got a little helpful advice from a friend and we decided to keep him in his crib by just lowering his mattress all the way to the ground.  His mattress fit perfectly.
If B doesn't stand up, I wouldn't be able to lift him out.  I stand on my tipey toes to even touch him when he's laying.  Perfect for our little spidey man.  Not so perfect for momma.  But he ain't coming out now.
Jer just laid his wood frame on the floor and plopped the mattress right on top of it.
There's no room for B's little arms to go through and get stuck.  We are so thankful this worked out.
All put back together and looks just like it did before.  Just A LOT lower.
That night he slept great.  Success!  High five for Jer, me and our friend for the advice/suggestion.
We ended up having to turn B's bed outward because he was so close to his wires that lead from the plug to his video monitor on the right side of his crib.
See that big "B" in the picture below?  Yeah, we rigged his video monitor by using his paper mache B and some baby books.  But it's worked.  :)  However, Jer is planning on moving his little shelf higher (fingers crossed its soon) so that we can see Boston better while sleeping.  Right now it's a little low and to the right since we've turned his bed.
I have to say I really do like his bed turned.  I wasn't sure at first.  But he has such a big room that it's not bad at all.  It gives it a whole different feeling from when we first set it up HERE.

Boston's Nursery...Finally!

Goodness...it's taken me forever to get pictures of Boston's nursery for y'all.  Sorry!  :)  But it's done...woohoo.

We finished his room ohhh...way back when...I'd say around his 3rd month birthday.  Soo...here's the final product.  We love everything about his room.  As most of you know, our idea for his room was to look not-so-baby-ish.  :)  He'll be able to enjoy it for years to come!
Jer painted the Est. 2010 above his name.  Just the other day, I made his Chalkboard Frame.  I plan on making a few more for his birthday!
We HAD to HAVE a globe in his room.  That was a must for Jer.  The idea is if B ever ask us where some place is he can go straight to his handy globe. :)  Btw - I got it a while back from HomeGoods for about $39.
His giraffe looks over him while he's sleeping.  The door on the left is to his bathroom and the door on the right is to his closet.
We LOVE his bedding.  Very simple but classy.  :)  It's made by Glenna Jean.
Jer built those shelves.  He got wood from Home Depot, cut and painted them and I bought the brackets from Hobby Lobby for 50% off.
Here's his Ten Commandments frame, Bible, Cross (the first thing we ever bought him when we first found out we were pregnant) and our first sonogram we ever got (we were 8 weeks and 2 days).
The blue numbers on the right are from my project I did back in January here.
Boy...wish he was still this little!!!

We hope you like it.  We have enjoyed spending time in his room with him playing.  :-)

Happy Hump Day!

Nursery "Sneak Peak"

Boston is now 6 months old and we STILL haven't shown everyone his nursery.  Only those that have come over, have seen it.  We finished it about 3 months ago but hadn't had the time to actually take pictures and do our video we want to record...until this week!  So stay tuned for the pictures and video.  Until then, here is a "sneak peak" of a wall in Boston's nursery...

Happy Hump Day,

10 commandments

I had been eyeing this frame in the baby section of our church store for a while.  It's been something that I knew I wanted in B's nursery but thought I would just make my own.  Well after about a month of not having time to make it among all the other projects I want to get done, I decided to bite the bullet and just buy it.  It was only 25 buckaroos and well worth it because it's A-dorable!  It has a giraffe and an elephant which are two animals we have in his nursery.  It's something that we can show B and teach him frequently.

Isn't this just so cute for a baby's room?  I thought so too.  :)

P.S. We keep meaning to do a post of his nursery since it's finally complete, but we've decided to do a video instead of pictures, which will give us a chance to explain things in his room better than writing it.  That's coming soon.

Happy Hump Day!

crib sleepin'

Yep, it's true, our big boy did some Crib Sleepin' the night of Valentine's Day!!!  I'm offically a very very sad mommy.  It's as if he's packed his things and we sent him off to college.  But I have to admit, he did very well!  Jer and I decided that v-day would be the day.  A day we would always remember.

our sweet angel sleeping peacefully

Here's how it went down: I fed B his bottle (more milk than usual so it would take longer to eat), burped him, told him "know that I love you despite what happens tonight", kissed his cheeks until my lips were tired, stood up and kissed him some more, reluctantly walked up stairs very slow (as if I wanted to loose a race to the top), kissed him a little more and gently laid him in his crib.  He fell right to sleep.  Jer and I (actually Jer did) said a prayer standing over him in his crib and we left the room.  Never thought we'd be saying a prayer about our baby sleeping in a crib.  :)  But that's par for us!  Ha.  We walked downstairs with his monitor glued to our hips, well not really, but we couldn't stop watching it (as we tried to watch tv) because we kept hearing him breathe and move.  I guess that's what babies do, breathe and move, who knew?!  :)

The day after, he took his daily naps in his crib.  It was kinda nice because I had the whole downstairs to be as loud as I wanted.  And then again, last night, we put him in his crib for the night.  For now we think we both have to be there to lay him down.  I'm convinced he won't sleep well if he doesn't have both of us there to wish him a goodnight.  ;-)

*Boston, my love, thank for being our baby.  You are perfect.  ~love you, mommy*

the simple frames

Our new (paid-too-much-for-them) black frames...
*Boston's giraffe is sportin' Boston's aviator hat*

When I envisioned the wall above his crib, I envisioned several frames hung with his newborn pictures.  And for some odd reason I changed my mind.  Something about it is very bare to me...I might have to add a little something...check back to see!  :-)

i HEART CANVAS

Yesterday, little man and I ran some errands.  One of our stops was to JoAnn's Fabric.  I picked up my beloved canvas for another canvas nursery project.  This was the look I was going for (courtesy of Pottery Barn Kids):

And this is what I got.

I made my stencils from MS Word (I used Arial Black in bold), printed them and used an exacto knife to cut out the middle.  Then I taped the paper onto each canvas and painted only the inside of the numbers with blue acrylic paint.  If you look really closely they aren't perfect.  Some paint bled through the paper but I like the non-perfect-look.  I love these because now Bos can learn his numbers!  :)

Happy Thursday,

Working on the nursery

We finally got around to getting a few things for the nursery. I wanted to work on putting his name up on the wall of his room. And I finally decided how I wanted to do it. I'm totally into doing things with canvas and using Mod Podge. So I went to Hobby Lobby and got some scrapbook paper, canvas, mod podge, acrylic paint, some sponge brushes and letters that spell out his name. Once we put our scrapbook paper on top of the canvas we are going to glue on his letters and hang the canvas on the wall. I knew I didn't want to hang the letters directly on the wall so this is what we came up with!

Jer painting the sides gray

While I was at Hobby Lobby I found some ABC scrapbook paper that I thought I could make as an art piece for the room. I'm going to mod podge it onto canvas as well. I wanted to add some color to the room and I think this will be perfect!

Painting the sides red.

Final product

What do y'all think of his name on the wall?

the nursery furniture arrived!

Since we have a membership with Direct Buy, we buy all of our furniture through them.  We ordered it way back in August but apparently not early enough.  The furniture had not arrived before Boston's arrival.  But it's okay since he'll be sleeping in our room for a while.  :)  The nursery furniture finally arrived about a week after we got home from the hospital and I immediately wanted Jer to put it together.

Boston's first time in his room!

And we were excited to show him

Blessings,
Jeni
