DIY Mason Jar Planter Box

When I saw this on Shanty-2-Chic's blog, I knew I had to make it for my mother-in-law!  I was blessed with 2 of them.  One of them, Gina (Jers stepmom), is super "country."  They live on a ranch and raise horses.  So I knew this would be perfect for her ranch house.

So, for mother's day, I set out to make this gift for her.  And it was e-a-s-y!

With very little supplies, an afternoon and a little help from my boytoy, we had a cute little planter box for some house plants to be housed in.
I threw on some rosettes that I had in my craft closet and....bam!  She's a country beauty.  We were going for the "rustic" look so we left the nail heads unpainted and scuffed her sides up a bit with a 3M sander block.
I went through the "inside plant" section at Home Depot and found these plants.  The un-scientific names for them are: left, ET fingers; middle, moon plant; right, Aloe Vera plant.

I love the way she turned out and Gina loved her too!  I thought about making one for my kitchen sink ledge.  But, of course, I've moved on to other projects.  :)

I seriously love Shanty's website!  I constantly want to make everything they make.  Ha.

Friday, I'll be posting all about my "other" mother's day gifts that I made for my mom and Jer's mom.  It's another Shanty creation you might want to make yourself!

I love another use of mason jars. They are so charming. You have to be careful though- without drain holes it is easy to overwater and get rotten roots. Catus probably won't be an isuee but other plants that need more water could be an issue. Might want to drill some drain holes.
