Organic fruits and veggies delivered to your door step? Whaaa? It took me 2.2 seconds to tell the guy, yes and please and thank you very much....oh and here's my credit card.
We were here at home one evening and a nice young man rang the door bell. Lucky for him I answered the door while Jer finished up dinner. I'm always a sucker for solicitors. But this one was my favorite. All he had to say was, "we will deliver locally grown organic fresh fruit and vegetables of your choice to your door every Monday (in the middle of the night) so that it is there for you when you wake up on Tuesday mornings."
I was sold.
That meant that my grocery stops would become quicker and less often. We go through fruits (we have little fruity 2.5 year old that eats it all up within days) quick.
Best part was the "your choice" words. Each week Organics 2U emails us with a list of what will be in our box that week. That is when we can email them back letting them know to eliminate something and to double up on other things if we'd like (now they have a new website that you can change your orders on at anytime instead of emailing them). How cool is that?!
Our first week I didn't have time to email them back so this is what we got.
For our first week's box, we got:
Green Leaf Lettuce
Red Bell Pepper
Jumbo Green Cabbage
In the box they always include a sheet with little fun facts and information and a little Did You Know? section.
Did You Know?
Fruits and vegetables give off an odorless, harmless and tasteless gas called ethylene after they are picked. All fruits and vegetables produce it, but some foods produce it in greater quantities. When ethylene-producing foods are kept in close proximity with ethylene-sensitive foods, especially in a confined space (like a bag or drawer), the gas will speed up the ripening process of the other produce.
Use this to your advantage if you want to speed up the ripening process of an unripe fruit; for example, by putting an apple in a bad with an unripe avocado. However, if you want your already ripe foods to last longer, remember to keep them away from ethylene-producing foods according to the list below:
Lettuce and other greens
Now you know! :)
